Why is Protein Important?

Protein is a crucial macronutrient needed by the human body for growth and maintenance. Every cell in your body contains protein. It is essential for repairing tissues, building muscles, and creating vital enzymes and hormones.

If you live a sedentary lifestyle, the baseline requirement is around 0.8 grams per kilogram of body weight. However, if you hit the gym, lift weights, or are trying to lose body fat, your protein requirement goes up significantly (often up to 1.6 – 2.2 grams per kg) to preserve and repair muscle tissue.
